While some women might wear a sexy bustier as a part of romantic ritual, others wear bustiers to tame unsightly fat that and push up their breasts. Bustiers were designed to serve two main purposes; supporting the breasts and shaping the waist line. When worn as an undergarment, a bustier shapes and smoothes the body. Most garments can be worn over a bustier without the undergarment showing through.
Bustiers can also be worn outside of the clothing. Madonna made this fashion trend popular among young women in 1990 when she came out with her music video for the hit single Vogue.
Today, women may choose to wear a bustier over a dress or long skirt to a formal event such as a dinner party, a dance or a museum opening. Sexy bustiers intended for bedroom use can be adorned with lace and ribbons, and may be transparent or decorated with ornaments.
